This was M.G.'s first of two back to back
films for Warner Bros.. In "A Star is Born" he plays Bebe Jesus, the industry's most powerful radio personality, opposite Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
Kris Kristofferson delivers a gift to Bebe Jesus as a peace offering.
Kristofferson was quoted in a magazine article as saying:
"The toughest part for me in the film was when I had to
waste a perfectly good case of Jack Daniels on M.G. Kelly."
Army Archard, interviews M.G. Kelly at World Premiere.
M.G. Kelly had only been studying acting for six months when he landed the supporting role of Bebe Jesus.
Here's what Kelly had to say about the first day he drove onto the lot at Warner Bros.:
" I couldn't believe it.
There was a parking space with my name on it. All I could think of
was, steal the nameplate, this may never happen again."
So he did.
In the following scene, the
film's Director, Frank Pierson, told M.G, "I need to get this in one
take, or else it will be six hours before we can reset the shot
after the window shatters." Once the box of whiskey came through the
studio window at Kelly, he forgot his lines and adlibbed the rest of
the scene. The Director printed the take.
